SUMMARY:

As a member of the Senior Communities accounting team, this position will be responsible for full cycle accounting for four HUD subsidized apartment buildings, special projects, and other analytical projects as assigned by the Accounting Manager. The programs are apartment buildings for senior citizens that follow HUD regulations.

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

For assigned programs

Understands the workings and accounting for all assigned programs in the Senior Communities Division. Maintains monthly and permanent program files. Calculates, writes up, and posts assigned standard and non-standard journal entries. Calculates, writes up, and monitors recurring journal entries. Performs housing rental income voucher processing for assigned programs. Communicates regularly with program personnel. Assists program personnel with accounting issues and programmatic issues which involve HUD regulations. Reconciles revenue and accounts receivable streams for tenants and HUD. Reconciles cash accounts. Reviews preliminary monthly financial statements and makes necessary adjustments. Reviews final monthly financial statements for compliance problems, errors, and budget variances. Informs accounting supervisor in writing of significant issues. Completes standard monthly variance analyses and statistical reporting. Reconciles all balance sheet accounts monthly or quarterly as required. Assists program personnel with collection of receivables from tenants. Maintains awareness of all open receivables and possible future bad debt adjustments. Prepares required audited financial statements and footnotes to audit reports for assigned programs. Answers queries of program personnel. Assists with preparation of annual budgets for assigned programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance and 2 years relevant experience required. Excellent communication skills. Ability to utilize complex work sheets in Excel for Windows and working knowledge of Word for Windows. Ability to move throughout the building and lift at least twenty-five pounds. This position requires intermittent sitting, standing, and bending. Must provide own transportation to attend meetings outside the office.

Researches and analyzes technical issues and financial data semi-independently. Recognizes impending and/or significant issues and problem areas, and initiates communication.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
